andersen in Logumkloster

Hi,
This is the first time I'm posting a message on this forum so please bear with me. I beleive that my family came from Logumkloster in Tonder. The parents that I have are Anders Andersen and Botilde Jensen m. abt 1860-1862 in Denmark, that's according to the death record of my ggrandfather Ernst Victor Andersen b. abt. 1866, he died 1890 in the USA.Ernst married here in the states but forgot to mention where he was from. Anders and Botilde didn't come to the states but their children did and settled in Hartford Connecticut USA. Their church was Danske Evanglist-Lutheran Menighed Church, this is where I found an Anton Andersen marriage 1898 stating his place of birth was Logumkloster Sonderjylland.
From a divorce record of my Ernst Victor andersen he had siblings: Hans-Jensen b.abt.1862, Anton b. abt.1871 [mentioned above], Mathias b. abt.1875, Sophia b. abt.1787 and Helen-Katrine b.unknown. The last child Helen-Katrine married and was living in Ribe.
Hans and Mathias married in Denmark as they came to the states with wives and children.
In all my research here I found no other clue as to where in Denmark they were from. I'm just hoping someone out their can give me some of their time and tell me where to research next. Also are there census records in this area for about 1860 to 1890's avaible to me on the web? Will the church help me out in this matter?
Many thanks in advance.

Fran

There is a Ernst Andersen born April 8, 1866 in Løgumkloster with parents Andreas Andersen and Anne Botille born Jensen. (Tønder, Lø, Løgumkloster 1864-1916 opslag 11).
You can find it on [www.arkivalieronline.dk]

Here [utilis.dk]
you can find informations on how to use AO (arkivalieron line).

If you are using a PC this little program is very good: AO Værktøj 3.4.0 and the instruction here.

Homer,
Thank you very much and yes I was wrong about Ernst' death. I mistakenly wrote down Ernst marriage date, his death was Feb 12, 1913 Fresno, California. I had found Mathais' manifest of passenger in US immigration list and it stated he was going to his brother Ernst in Hartford, but it didn't say exactly where he was from it just said {[ Juilland ] spelling}

You wrtoe that Mathais was from Hemme, Emmerlev: I see on my map that Emmerlev is west of Logumkloster. What is Hemme?

Many many thanks for your help and kindness,
Fran

Hemme is a little place in Emmerlev parish, but I don't find Mathias' birth in that parish.

I did find Anton in Løgumkloster, born 26 Oct 1871 (opslag 42 #56)

Again I'm overjoyed. Thank you, thank you. I've signed up with www.arkivalieronline.dk and am waiting for a password from them. I hoping it's soon, then I can search as well.

If you need anything form the states just let me know, my Dad was all French so I belong to the American French Genealogy Society here in Rhode Island. We're the largest French society in the US. about 2000 members all over the world. My Mom just passed away she is 1/4 Irish and 3/4 Danish. She was the Andersen. I wish I had found this fourm before her death. Maybe she was directing me from up above.

It was Henne in Ribe, not Hemme: The transcriber of Mathias' registration must have misread it.

Henne, Ribe 1871-92:

Helene Katrine born 16 Jul 1873 (opslag 55 #12)

Mathias born 24 Sep 1875 (opslag 11 #10)

Sofie Marie born 3 Oct 1878 (opslag 66 #10)

Brian and Homer,
Again I overwhelmed with your dedication to my families genealogy, it's 10:49 Sunday morning and was just about to write you about not being able to find Tonder County in the 1870 census listing and I found all this information. You guys were busy while I was sleeping.I will be on AO for a long time today getting all the documents of the acts you found.

I found a birth in Logumkloster of a [Havarld] Karl Andersen mar 4 ap. 17 1865
Logumkloster 1864-1919 opslag 4 #17 can either of you tell me what his first name is maybe Harold????

Again many many thanks
Fran

Hi

Karl Andersens first name is Harald. It is the Danish version of Harold. It goes back to old nordic language (Haraldr).

Mette

Fran, you won't find an 1870 census for Tønder, because the area became part of Germany in 1864, and was not returned to Denmark until 1920.

So my wife's grandparents in Brede were born in Denmark 1850's and married in Germany 1880, without ever leaving Brede!

Thanks to all that's helping me, I found the marriage of Andres and Anne Botilde Jensen, but because of my not understanding the language I'm having a hard time read the documents. It's the names!!!!!! I can make out the names of the bride and groom and the date but her parents are different then what you gave me. It looks like Hans [?] Jensen and Kathrine [?] Bjorn?????. Logumkloster, Tonder Opslag 288 #8 Would you please do me a great favor as if you haven't done enough, would you transcribe the actual marriage doucment word for word. This will help me to read other marriage documents in the future.

As far as the 1870 census I understand. Now I know why my ggrandfathers wife my ggrandmother Marie Jensen [no parents listed anywhere] stated she was from Germany in the census records. Most likley she came from Tonder as well. I'll never find her parents. Oh well I can't have it all.

I don't know if you already found Anne Bothilde Jensens birth? As mentioned at the marriage she is from Sønder Seierslev which is in Emmerlev parish. Her birth is here:

1835-1844, Emmerlev, Højer, Tønder, opslag 43, no. 9

Born 6 March 1836, Ane Botille Jensen
Parents: Hans Jacob Jensen and Helene Cathrine Bjørn??? (Maybe Bjørnsdatter?)

Mette

So, that solves one mystery: The Anne Bothilde Jensen born 1836 that Brian found earlier in Østerby was a coincidence, but death I found the right one.

This appears to be her parents and siblins in 1855 census:

Tønder, Tønder, Højer og Lø, Emmerlev, Nyland by, , 31, et hus, 41, FT-1855
Name: Age: Marital status: Occupation in household: Occupation: Birth place:
Hans Jacob Jensen 45 Gift Husfader Slesvig
Lene Kathrine Bjørnschou 50 Gift Hans kone Slesvig
Hans Lausten Jensen 12 Ugift Deres børn Slesvig
Jensine Petrea Jensen 9 Ugift Deres børn Slesvig

Just to let you know I'm still here, I've been busy with household duties and the American-French Geneolgical Societies duties. I'm on the board of directors and we are always doing projects, I'm now working on copying church records which didn't have anyparents listed and looking up their vital records to make any corrections and then we turn it into a book for our shelves and to sell.

One thing I'd like to say is I hope all these Denmark BMD documents that AO have worked hard to put online don't end up on Ancestry. This would be a tragedy to Denmark genealogists.

Hi all,

I'm at it again for now, each step I take back the more I learn about the language, but then I go so far that I get lost. My main goal is to go back as far as I can and then return back to the beginning of my research and fill in siblings of each family groups.

I found Peter Andersen Peterson's confirmation but can't figure out the date: opslag 53 #8 Dolstrup, Lo, Tonder. Can you please Translate this for me. I know my problems is understanding the language, as this comes with all research. I've learned how to read French documents now I'm looking foward to learning Danish dcocuments.

I can figure out the meanings of the headers Births-Fodte, Confirmations-Konfirmerede. Deaths-Dode, but what are the rest. The TABLE of Headings AO offers I find some of them are different ex: they say VIEDE is Marriages but I find COPLEREDE. Can you help me sorte this out.

On the marriage of Andres Peterson and Inger Christiane Christophersdatter Oct 12 1816 Dostrup, Lo, Tonder 1814-1823 opslag 72 #5. He's 26 5/12 years old and she is 20 7/12 years old, I can't make her parents names [Truels Marcussen of Dostrup], don't they mention the mother???? I'm hoping you can tell me who the witness are.

Under Peters and Ingers INDEX can you translate across the head of the document. opslag 134 #72-73 I know the marriage is the 5th column, arrivals into the parish is the 6th column, this tells me to go to pg. 91 #4 [opslag 80 #4], I don't know who this person is Christian Gregersen Klint [is this her father?] and was he from Klint????

I know this is a lot of questions and I appreciate all that you can do.

Thanks again and take care
Fran

opslag 53 #8 Dolstrup, Lo, Tonder: ???

Døstrup, Lø, Tønder 1814-1823 opslag 72 #5: Look at the top Copulerede (old word telling they have made a couple). He was widower and 25 10/12 years old.
The witnesses were "Truels Marcussen, Gaardmand i Døstrup" and "Peder Andersen, Huusmand i Døstrup". Inger was a maid and my guess is that Marcussen was her employer.

Christian Gregersen Klint. He has number 4 in 1815. Futher down you can find Inger Christiane Christophersdatter, maid as number 4 in 1816 arriving from Outrup pr. Varde.
The last column on page 161 (opslag 134) tells that she died 1871. According to the death entry (Tønder, Lø, Døstrup 1871-1940 opslag 70) she was born in Outrup parrish. I can not find her birth.

Døstrup 1814-1823:
opslag 7: birth of Peder Andreassen
opslag 115: death of Anna Andreasdatter Grøndahl

Thank you Poul,
I did read the documents wrong about Christan Gregersen Klint Page 91 #4 and I did see Ingers # 4, it never dawn on me that I was reading the wrong one.

This birth of a Peter andreassen you found opslag 7, do you think that this is a child of Andres Peterson and Inger Christiane Christophersdatter, Dostrup 1814-1823 opslag 7? It mentions Anna Andreassen as the mother or am I reading this wrong also?

Many thanks

I need help of a translation of a birth of Peter Andersen opslag 5 #3
This birth of Peter states his father Anders Pedersen of Dostrup and his mother as Anna Andreases Gronache of where ?.

Also on Annas death opslag 115 #29 Anders Pedersen was listed from Dostrup but what is the word after Dostrup. It could be that this word belongs to the death below it.

Please can you help me out.
